Maple Leaf
The Maple Leaf gold coin is one of the world’s most renowned investment coins, struck by the Royal Canadian Mint since 1979. It owes its reputation to its exceptional purity: at 999.9‰ (24 karat), it is one of the purest coins on the market. Its design features the famous maple leaf, Canada’s national emblem; since 2024 the obverse has borne the effigy of King Charles III, succeeding the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that had appeared on the coin since its introduction.
The coin weighs 31.11 g in total. Because it is 99.99% pure, these 31.11 g also correspond almost exactly to its fine gold weight: virtually the entire weight of the coin is gold.
The price of a gold coin follows the amount of pure gold it contains, not its total weight. The Maple Leaf contains one troy ounce of fine gold: it is this amount of pure gold, identical to that of other one-ounce coins on the market, that determines its price — even if the total weight or fineness differs from one coin to another.
